美国加州滨海市的七月初最像中国旧历年的年底。 独立日还没到，街上就显出节日将到的气氛来。主要的街道口都搭起了卖烟花爆竹的棚子。烟花在蒙特雷市是被禁的，而在两三英里外的滨海市，烟花的燃放却是毫无禁忌的。滨海市的居民，我想大部分是墨西哥人。这个民族爱热闹，爱群聚，也爱燃放烟花。尽管烟花污染空气，制造噪音，烟花的买卖，恐怕是滨海市政府税收来源之一，所以也就不禁了。

晚上8点多回到家，对门老墨的前院里人影绰绰，一辆大卡车停到我门口。不用说又是在搞聚会。孩子们则在马路上燃放烟花。我有点后悔回来早了，不过邻居的音乐没有到震耳欲聋的程度，也没有人情绪激昂地发出吆呵呵呵呵的怪笑。我站在院子里，听着四下此起彼伏的烟花声，想就当这是除夕吧。毕竟这是革命的烟火，爱国的烟火，发自人民群众内心的自己花钱买的烟火。

This afternoon after working out at In Shape on Fremont, I biked into the streets I had not been for a long time and lost my direction. Two young ladies were walking in the street so I asked them for direction. The younger one showed me quickly but the older one, in her early 30's, came up to me in a weird way and said: we are the same way. I thought, no way, I am not THAT lost. Besides, even if we were the same way, I would not like to walk my bike with two ladies. She then kept saying same way. I thought maybe they were tourists and were looking for Safeway grocery which was not far and was in their direction. As I was talking to the older lady, the younger one showed some facial expression as if saying she was crazy and don't talk to her. I asked if they were local and they said no. Where are you from? I asked. Mexico, the younger lady said. Mejico! exclaimed I, de donde? De Jalisco, she said. To show my friendliness I started to sing Jalisco, Jalisco, Jaliscoooooooooooooooooo. Me gusta Jalisco, I said. Bailando Jalisco! Then I said adios and the older lady still had the expression that she wanted to stick to me longer. I wonder what she was thinking. LOL.
